Hi, I'm Maria!
© Ricardo Lopes
I got my first Polaroid when I was six years old and have always been surrounded by visual and performing arts. As a Portuguese documentary photographer and photojournalist, I contribute to publications like
The Guardian , Público , Reuters, as well as institutions like the
Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
My aim is to create timeless, analog-inspired photography that combines a documentary style with a fashion editorial aesthetics. I strive to capture the beauty of light and the poetry of everyday life, along with the details that tell your love story.
I would describe my editing style as cinematic, warm, colorful, timeless, with an analog-inspired touch of graininess. Natural skin tones are always a top priority!
I love telling other people's love stories , striving to turn them into visual poetry.

Imagine stepping into your own film — that's the essence of the photos I capture. Just go on a date and invite me along as a third-wheel. I promise to make you feel comfortable and at ease with my camera, ensuring we have an amazing time together!
Passionate about photography and adventurous travel, I find inspiration in exploring diverse cultures and breathtaking landscapes. Combining my love for both is a dream come true. Whether it's a destination wedding or an elopement, I'm thrilled to capture the beauty of love and life through my lens.
Traveling is a big part of who I am.
It inspires me and makes me feel alive as I embrace diverse cultures and immerse myself in beautiful landscapes.
Memories mean everything to me, which is why I named this project Atelier Memória - the portuguese word for memory. I love laughing and being surrounded by happy people celebrating love, while capturing every little moment that matters! I'm also deeply in love with all forms of art, whether it's music, cinema, painting, or poetry...
1.
I was born and raised in Lisbon, where I am currently based. That's where I studied languages and graduated in architecture. Later on, I pursued photography. I have also lived in Rome for six months, and I completely fell in love with Italy.
2.
I love dogs and all kinds of animals. I'm one of those people who will change direction while walking on the street just to pet a dog. I have a golden retriever, and she is a great life partner, especially during the long nights of photo editing.
3.
I have a deep fascination for artists' studios; they tend to reflect the thoughts and emotions of their owners during the creative process. This fascination led me to start a photographic series where I interview artists and capture their workspaces.
4.
I have a deep passion for all things visual, as I've always had a creative mind. I enjoy learning and pushing myself to new limits. I keep a visual diary called Élan, which you can explore here if you're interested. It's a great way to get to know me better.
I have extensive experience in destination weddings and elopements, and I also shoot couple sessions and other love stories. I feel really lucky to be able to do something I love, meeting incredible people every day, and getting to travel around the world. Sometimes, I don't even remember that it's an actual job!
I would be thrilled to become a part of your love story and to capture the beauty and heartfelt emotions of your wedding. If you have any inquiries or wish to explore further into your wedding arrangements, please don't hesitate to contact me below.
Let's create beautiful memories together!
